The NGI, Belgium’s national mapping agency, is tasked with providing reliable, up-to-date and durable geographical information to support effective and transparent governance in a changing society. In recent years, it has clearly established itself as a key player in the provision of national geographical information, with a strengthened role as a ‘geobroker’ (broker of geographical data).

The NGI actively encourages the integration of local, regional and federal infrastructures and promotes cooperation between the various levels of government, among other reasons to fill gaps in the provision of high-quality geodata and geoservices. Numerous authoritative sources are integrated into the NGI’s data. Structural partnerships are thus established: with Infrabel for the railway infrastructure, with Elia for the high-voltage grid, with the GAPD and Statbel for administrative boundaries and statistics, and with the regions in the field of aerial photographs, so that data from the regions’ large-scale regional mapping projects can be integrated to the fullest extent possible. This data is made available in various formats, including topographical maps in analogue and digital formats. In addition, web services provide access to the most up-to-date information.
